I wanted to create a Flash animation that essentially reconstructed a famous painting or at least the work of a well known artist. I’m a fan of Kandinsky’s work, so I choose one of his pieces to reconstruct. This work, titled “Orange” is not one of his best known works, but I really dug it and thought it would be fun to animate. I tried to look at it from a unique perspective and imagine how it could be created in “animated fantasy world.”

I used Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash to create this animation.

I started playing around with drawing and animating an iPhone with the idea of possibly using it for another project, but thought it would be fun to do an iPhone spoof since I am always chuckling at the apps that Apple promotes in their iPhone commercials. I’m not sure if my made-up apps are any more ridiculous than many real iPhone apps or not… I’ll let the viewer decide.

I also discovered while doing a little research for this piece that “Brontosaurus” is an obsolete term. I initially choose Brontosaurus because I always assumed Dino from the Flintstones was a Brontosaurus, although I have no facts to back it up. It turns out the Brontosaurus was misclassified due to hurried & improper research and the dinosaur we’ve grown up thinking was a Brontosaurus is in fact an Apatosaurus. Anyway, I found it interesting.

And yes, that is me playing the “iPhone music” on acoustic guitar. The real song is called “You, Me, and the Bourgeoisie” by the Submarines and I’m certain it can be purchased through iTunes.
